Avenida Atlántica is closed off and turned into a pedestrian only road. Automatically the beach becomes a multicultural fashion show like you've never seen. Including rollerbladers, skaters and athletes from every beach sport imaginable. 'Hype Point' at Post 9 just in front of the hotel Sol Ipanema is the ideal location to rent a beach chair, have a cocktail and enjoy the beach. And the workers at 'Barraca do Pele' will watch your things while you take a dip in the ocean, if you so wish. atlantica

'Tranquility Point' at Post 1 in Leme. Here you find friends and families who spend a day at the beach like it's the patio of their house. Tip: Don't take a lot of money, expensive cameras, passports, airline tickets or other important items to the beach.

Carnival

Without a doubt one of the most deranged parties on the planet. Anything you can imagine, you can find for sale at Saara. It's a kitsch festival of colors and yelling street vendors. For a shopping excursion, take advantage and buy all types of gifts and souvenirs or just an interesting afternoon. Take the metro to station Uruguaniana

City Center

With all different architectural styles, Cinelandia shows the old part of the city and part of the daily life of downtown Rio. The metropolitan cathedral is also very close and is constructed to incredibly use only natural light. The project and construction were coordinated by Monsenhor Ivo Antônio Calliari (1918 - 2005).

Feria Hippie/Hype

At the last station on the metro, Plaza General Osório, this colorful hippy fair boasts works of art, jewelry, leather goods, and other artisanal goods. Open on sundays from 9am to 5pm

Situated in the middle of “Old Rio” where the colonial buildings are perfectly preserved. The area is filled with bars, one right next to another and in many you'll find live music. Go before 10pm to get a place to sit.

Tijuca National Park

This famous forest provides a sea breeze like an ocean cocktail. It's the largest urban jungle in the world and can take you all day to explore. Santa Teresa

The best days to visit Santa Teresa are week days, even though on some weekends the neighborhood offers various types of shows and street fairs. It's the bohemian neighborhood of the city and entrance to the museums is free on Tuesdays. Take the “Bondinho” (the cable car) and get off wherever you like to walk the streets of Santa Teresa. You'll love the charm of this colonial part of the city. We highly recommend the Parque das Ruínas. The neighborhood also is known for its many good restaurants: Check out the restaurant Sobrenatural for fish and shellfish, the “Pastel de Camarao” (shrimp pie) is addictive! planetario They say that the owner goes out every morning before the sun is up so that he can serve the freshest fish... and its the truth.For Brazilian food you can't miss the Bar do Mineiro or bar do Arnaldo to try some excellent cachaças. To get there by Metro get off at station Carioca and cross Avenida Chile to take the yellow cable car (“Bondinho”) from the Petrobras building

This enormous park between the neighborhood of Flamengo and its respective beachfront was recently restored. It has soccer pitches, tennis and basketball courts, bicycle and skate paths and even yoga classes. Ask about the schedule!

Sunset on Sugar Loaf

This beautiful attraction is located only 10 minutes away in bus. Take the bus 511 to Urca or it's just a short walk from El Misti House Rio. The teleférico (gondola) costs R$45.00. If you have the time, walk to the top of the Urca hill and from there you just pay half to get to the second hill, Sugar Loaf. It's a pretty path between the ocean and the jungle. Difficulty level: Easy.
