CASA DA MATRIZ From Wednesday to Monday, you'll find every type of music imaginable. A converted two-story house, with various bars, two dance floors, rooms with arcade games, and chill-out rooms. DEMOCRATICOS One of the most famous and beautiful social clubs in Rio. The Repulicana orchestra dazzles with its repertoire of sambas from the beginning of last century. Excellent musicians, people of all ages and cheap beer – like any good social club. Its a necessary night out for anyone who likes live music and dancing. Just 3 blocks from the arcs in Lapa on Rua Riachuelo.
FRIDAYS IN LAPA A gigantic multicolor party in Lapa. The streets are closed to traffic and overflow with people from all walks of life. Free entry. Here you can enjoy a huge variety of music, including: Samba, Pagode, Reggae, Hip Hop, Funk and Rock. Spend the night drinking caipirinhas in the street and meeting people from all over. Get there by taxi or bus, take any bus that says Maracaná (433 or 464) and get off in Lapa.
CIRCO VOADOR: Friday and Saturday. One of the best places to see Brazilian bands and singers playing live. You'll always find a different show, just ask the staff of El Misti House Rio about the current lineup. Located on Rua dos Arcos, (no number), below the arcs in Lapa. Tel: 2433-0354
SÃO CRISTOVAO FAIR: From Friday to Sunday, NON-STOP! Also known as the Parabas Fair, it's the largest market of Northeastern Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. The fair highlights the typical music of the Brazilian Northeast, the Forro, and there are numerous craft and food stalls set up for this weekly event. This is not a big tourist attraction, so you'll have the opportunity to really get to know the customs of Northeastern Brazilians. Dance and drink are combined with good traditional food make for a great time. Donde?
CASA ROSA From Friday to Sunday, this old mansion used to be a place where men would seek the services of working women from the 1920's through the 40's. It was reopened in the 1990's as a social club and still retains many of its historical aspects... but now the DJs play the best Brazilian music around and the band Arcos de Choro also plays Chorinho (instrumental Samba) on Sundays. The house has two bars, a place to hang out and spend time with friends, pool tables, inexpensive beer and beautiful people. Casa Rosa is famous for its great feijoada (a typical Brazilian food) and live music on Sundays. It all gets started at 7pm. Check with the staff of El Misti House to get the daily schedule of events. Located in Larajeiras at Rua Alice, 550. The easiest way to get there is to share a taxi between 2 or 3 people. SAMBA SCHOOLS Every Saturday from July until Carnival the biggest and most important samba schools open their practices to the public. We go to Salgueiro and Mangueira... two of the titans. It's best to go with the flow and shake and dance to the most diva rhythms of Carnival. You'll see how the schools prepare for the the incredible party that is Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, its sprit and the enthusiasm of the people of Rio for the biggest event in the world. The trip includes pick up at El Misti House Rio de Janiero at 10:30pm, entrance ticket, guide and the return transfer from the samba school at 4am.
SUNDAY FAVELA FUNK PARTY: If you want to experience serious intensity accompanied by ferocious rhythm, this is your chance. The Cariaoca Funky music has become a benchmark for the rhythms that have been created in ghettos around the world and is now some of the most popular music in Brazil. Unfortunately this event is close to many of the Favelas in the area west of Rio, so if you want to live this experience, you need to go with one of our guides. The package includes pick up at El Misti House Rio de Janeiro at 10:30pm, entrance in the VIP section, the guide, and the return trip from the Favela Funky Party at 4am. (You'll arrive at El Misti House Rio de Janiero at approximately 5am.)
BAR DO ARNAUDO Its forte is the northeast cookery, with delicious regional dishes such as corned beef, cowpea, cassava and pumpkin manioc. It is a good place to taste cachaça. Visit the unusual neighborhood of Santa Teresa while there Working from midday to 6 p.m. (Mondays), from midday to 8:30 p.m.(Saturdays and Sundays).
BAR SALVAÇÃO It is an extremely casual place mixing young people and a little older ones. It pays a kind of tribute to traditional bars using images os saints as decorations and offering pool tables to the customers on the second floor, where there is a nice porch. The tips are bottled beers instead os draft beers, and great delicacies like the cheese rennet, chicken or meat barbecue. Rua Henrique de Novaes, Botafogo. CENTRO CULTURAL CARIOCA
It is a place for Brazilian music with lots of samba, MPB(Brazilien popular music) and even forro. CCC works on a house from the beginning of the 20th century and is a part of the movement that helped revitalized the region. The cookeryis worth trying, with a tipical carioca food, like pastry and sausage with frech fries. Rua do Teatro, 37, Praça Tiradentes.
